Aqaba future ventures to increase quality of public transport, maintain pace with tourism growth

(MENAFN) Aqaba is advancing plans to enhance public transportation and align with the city’s growing tourism sector, according to Muhammad Abdul-Wadud, Commissioner of Economic and Investment Affairs at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA). During a visit to Aqaba Transport and Logistics Services Company, discussions focused on future projects aimed at creating a sustainable smart city with modern infrastructure and high-quality services.

The company, which operates 51 buses covering 86% of Aqaba’s internal transport routes, served 1.4 million passengers last year, with numbers expected to rise in 2025 following operational updates and cooperation with neighborhood committees. Plans include modernizing the bus fleet, restructuring routes, and introducing a smart passenger transport system to improve efficiency and service coverage.

Three major projects are highlighted: tourist “open-top buses” for sightseeing, an innovative amphibious bus combining land and sea transport, and environmentally friendly electric buses to reduce carbon emissions. These initiatives aim to integrate transportation with tourism, enhancing both mobility and the visitor experience in Aqaba. The visit concluded with a tour of the company’s advanced monitoring and control room, showcasing technology that ensures passenger safety and operational efficiency.
