(MENAFN) At least 13 fatalities occurred Sunday when a double-decker passenger coach collided head-on with a compact vehicle in Argentina's northeastern Misiones province, local media confirmed, citing official sources.

The Misiones government reported the incident took place approximately 4:30 a.m. local time on a bridge shrouded in dense fog, with the coach transporting travelers from Obera city to Puerto Iguazu plummeting into a waterway below from the collision's force.

"The accident, which occurred early this morning, took place on National Route 14, at kilometer 892, when a bus belonging to the Sol del Norte company, which was carrying around 50 passengers from Obera, collided head-on with a car traveling in the opposite direction," the Misiones government said in a statement.
