Sen. Lesser Encourages Public to Share Feedback on Route 9 Traffic Light Proposal
State Senator Matt Lesser encourages the public to attend and share comments at an informational meeting on a proposal to remove traffic signals on Route 9. The project is intended to improve safety and ease congestion.
“Congestion on Route 9 affects folks across our district and the state,” said Sen. Lesser. “I know that my constituents have strong opinions about this project, and I encourage them to make their voices heard and learn more about the scope and timeline of this proposal.”
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct an in-person public information meeting on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at Middletown High School, 200 La Rosa Lane, Middletown.
An open house will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation. To learn more and provide comments, please visit portal.ct.gov/Route9Middletown.
Construction on deKoven Drive and Rapallo Avenue is anticipated to begin in spring 2027 while the rest of the work will begin in 2028 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for these projects is approximately $143 million. These projects are anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
Expected right-of-way impacts involve minor acquisitions and easements.
